Harvey J. Barnett University of Illinois 1964 (BA), member of Phi Beta Kappa; Northwestern University Law School, J.D., 1967, member of Law Review, graduated Cum Laude. 1967 admitted to the Bar of State of Illinois, and a member of the Bars of the United States Supreme Court, Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and Northern District of Illinois (member of trial bar).

Harvey J. Barnett's 38 years of practice have been devoted exclusively to litigation and trial work primarily in the field of complex commercial matters. His practice has included almost every type of litigation matter and subject, including: corporate, contract, partnership, real estate, securities, employment, labor, environmental, professional malpractice, insurance, intellectual property rights, stockholder and derivative actions, class actions, civil actions, civil rights/discrimination cases, personal injury, antitrust, franchising, criminal (pro bono), domestic relations, construction and arbitrations. Mr. Barnett has tried more than 150 cases in all courts and tribunals throughout the country, including jury trials, non-jury, equity courts, administrative tribunals and arbitrations. He has handled appeals in State and Federal Appellate Courts throughout the country, including the United States Supreme Court.

Civic Matters: From 1967 through 1972, Mr. Barnett was a cooperating attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union and on its behalf argued Mosley v. Police Department of the City of Chicago, 408 U.S. 92 (1972) to the United States Supreme Court, successfully challenging a picketing ordinance of the City of Chicago.

From 1972 to 1976 Mr. Barnett served as a member of the Highland Park District 107 School Board.

Mr. Barnett has been active in the Soviet Jewry movement for more than 20 years. He has been a Board member of Chicago Action for Soviet Jewry, a member of its speaker's bureau, fund raiser and special adviser since 1980. From 1983 to 1990, Mr. Barnett served as Board member of the Union of Councils for Soviet Jews. He drafted the revised Jackson-Vanik guidelines. He organized and institutionalized the Soviet Jewry Legal Advocacy Center (SJLAC). He filed numerous lawsuits on behalf of Refuseniks and their families. He acted as liaison with the Refuseniks' lawyers' committees in the Soviet Union and has spoken throughout the country on human rights abuses in the Soviet Union.

From 1998 to 2002, Mr. Barnett was a Board member of the Anti-Defamation League. He served as Chairman of the Government Affairs Committee and co-Chairman of the Civil Rights Division. In April 2004, the ADL awarded him their Abraham Lincoln Marovitz Civil Rights Award.

For the past 25 years, Mr. Barnett has been involved in the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago. He served on the Board from 1982 to 1988 and from 1998 to the present. He has chaired numerous programs including Mini-Missions, Country Club Day and Missions. In 1980 he received the Federation's Young Leadership Award. He currently serves as Vice President. Mr. Barnett was the General Chairman of the JUF 2004 Campaign.

Personal Data: Harvey and his wife, Jackie, have been married for 40 years. They reside in Highland Park, Illinois. They have four children and eleven grandchildren.
