Robert D. Cheifetz is a partner at Sperling & Slater. Rob is involved in all areas of the complex commercial litigation that Sperling & Slater handles, especially intellectual property, fraud, and breach of contract cases. He has litigated cases at the trial and appellate level, in state and federal courts in Illinois and elsewhere.

Rob is a graduate of Brandeis University (1988, magna cum laude) and the University of Chicago Law School (1992). Rob has been with the firm since 1992.

Reported Cases: Since Mr. Cheifetz joined the firm in 1992, he has prosecuted and defended numerous lawsuits, including: In re Ha-Lo Industries, Inc. (Special litigation counsel appointed by bankruptcy court to pursue claims relating to Ha-Lo's acquisition of Starbelly.com); USMR v. Lemelson Medical Education & Research Foundation, et al. (represented defendants in patent ownership dispute); Lucini Italia v. Grappolini (represented plaintiff in fraud/trade secret misappropriation litigation); Ragsdale v. City of Memphis, et al. (represented co-defendant Memphis Grizzlies at the appellate level in constitutional challenge to arena financing); Capri Sun v. Beverage Pouch (represented defendant/ counterclaimants in trademark and trade dress infringement/ antitrust litigation); Santa’s Best v. Rennoc (represented plaintiff in partnership dispute); Syndia v. Lemelson Medical Education & Research Foundation, et al. (represented defendants/counterclaimants in contract dispute); UDV v. Wirtz (represented defendant/counterclaimant in contract/antitrust dispute); Lull v. Pettibone (represented defendant/counterclaimant in patent and trade dress infringement/antitrust litigation); and Baker Marke v. Quaker et al. (represented plaintiff in business tort/ intellectual property misappropriation litigation).
