Matthew T. Slater, Associate
Mr. Slater joined Sperling & Slater in 2005 and has gained experience in complex commercial, antitrust and securities litigation. He has also worked in NASD and internationally arbitrated matters. As a law student Mr. Slater aided the Illinois State’s Attorney’s office in several felony prosecutions, and competed in the University of Michigan’s Campbell Moot Court competition.

Representative Matters
Mediation/Arbitration
Mr. Slater has worked in a variety of mediation and arbitration settings. Mr. Slater was part of the legal team that represented an American distributor against Hyundai in an arbitration conducted under South Korean law. Mr. Slater has also worked to secure recovery for defrauded investors against securities brokerages in NASD arbitration. Recently, Mr. Slater aided in negotiating a favorable settlement through mediation on behalf of a parts manufacturer against a major automotive company.
Antitrust
Mr. Slater was part of the legal team that represented the United Airlines Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors as special antitrust counsel in challenging the combined efforts of several aircraft providers under the Sherman Act.
Directors & Officers
Mr. Slater has experience in the defense of corporate directors and officers against derivative shareholders suits. He has also worked with matters concerning preferred shareholders’ voting and dividend rights, as well as issues concerning the allocation of corporate assets in the event of liquidation.
