Matthew H. Rice, Associate
Mr. Rice joined Sperling & Slater in 2010. His experience includes the defense of securities and shareholder litigation, complex commercial litigation and consumer class actions in federal and state courts. Prior to joining Sperling & Slater, Mr. Rice was an associate at Morrison & Foerster LLP in San Francisco and Jenner & Block LLP in Chicago.

Representative Matters
Securities and Shareholder Litigation
Mr. Rice has worked on a range of matters on the behalf of public and private corporations and individual directors and officers, including the defense of shareholder derivative actions, actions under the federal securities laws, fiduciary duty litigation under ERISA, and investigations by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice. In addition, Mr. Rice has represented committees of boards of directors in their conduct of internal corporate investigations. Mr. Rice has experience in addressing insurance coverage and indemnification issues that commonly arise in these types of matters.
Commercial Litigation
Mr. Rice has represented businesses in a wide range of complex commercial disputes, including contract actions, business tort disputes, consumer class actions, and civil actions brought under the RICO statute and the Illinois Consumer Fraud Act.
Alternative Dispute Resolution
Mr. Rice has experience defending the enforceability of agreements to arbitrate or mediate disputes, including litigating motions to compel arbitration and securing enforcement of arbitral awards.
